On November 26, 2012, an international symposium on Femicide (the killing of women and girls because of their gender), will held by the UN-ACUNS in Vienna, Austria, to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The 50 Million Missing Campaign founder, Rita Banerji, will be among the speakers at this symposium and will talk about the various forms and extent of femicides in India.
This is a huge accomplishment for Banerji and her Campaign. She has been working hard for the last 6 years to have “femicide,” be recognized as a human rights violation. Truly a step in the right direction in the fight against Gendercide. Will keep you posted on the details of the outcomes of the symposium.
